Look for fireplace models that are design-certified by a nationally recognized laboratory that tests to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards.
Get multiple estimates and compare the total cost of the fireplace models including the price, accessories, installation cost including the split meter installation, as well as operating and maintenance costs. Choose a reliable dealer by using the Dealer Showroom Locator on this site to help you locate a fireplace dealer near you. Ask the dealers if they install and service their products. If not, ask if they will arrange for a professional installer or service technician to do so.
To ensure your fireplace is installed correctly and in compliance with local codes and regulations, use a Licensed Installer who will provide you with a copy of all necessary permits. Your installer should arrange for inspection by the county or city that issued the installation permit for the work. See Fireplace Installation for more information.
After installation is complete, request a review of how to operate the appliance and recommended service requirements.
