Expedited Meter Set Process
Many of you have requested that we simplify our meter set process for customers that are converting their homes to Natural Gas. We have heard what you said and are pleased to inform you that we have done just that. Effective June 16, 2008, we will launch the new Expedited Meter Set Process. We are certain that this process improvement will enhance the service that both you and Washington Gas will provide our valuable customers.
This is how the new process will work:
- WG Underground Contractor installs the service line to the house and generates the order for a meter to be set.
- WG Meter Company sets the new meter, along with a gas outlet valve. Note: At this point, gas will be "live" up to the valve.
- An information tag is placed on just below the gas outlet valve that advises the customer to contact a licensed professional to introduce gas to the house piping.
- For the licensed professional, the tag specifies the gas pressure that is being used and their responsibility to perform a pressure test.
- WG will continue to introduce the gas ourselves, as before, if the house piping is installed and an inspection tag is on the line. That is, providing we can gain access to the house.
