Shopping Tips
To choose the best product for your home and family, consider these steps when looking for a gas dryer.
- Consider the dimensions of the installation space. Compact dryers that are typically stacked with a companion clothes washer are ideal for small laundry rooms.
- Venting. Dryers can be vented from the side, back or bottom. Choose a model that exhausts in more than one direction for easy installation.
- Capacity. There are three different drum sizes including compact, regular/large and extra large. The wrong size results in wasted energy, excessive wrinkling and the poor operation of moisture sensors.
- Regular or large gas clothes dryers can handle average family loads, and usually have a drum volume of 5.5 - 7 cubic feet.
- Extra-large gas clothes dryers are designed to handle very large loads and bulky household items such as comforters. Their drum volume is up to 8 cubic feet.
- Compare the warranty and service package of various models and brands.
- Models must be design-certified. Be sure it is tested to national standards by International Approval Services or another nationally recognized laboratory.
